Zinc oxide: Our favorite ingredient in our make-up

Back to basics: a foundation with active ingredients for the skin with and without problems.

Healthy, well-cared for skin shows the best version of yourself. A trend that is currently becoming increasingly important alongside the trend of invasive techniques.

Time to refresh, renew and breathe new life into our skin care routines.

The foundation of optimal skin care starts with a better understanding of the ingredients in our cosmetics. In this blog we discuss one of the most used ingredients in our makeup line and our favorite ingredient, Zinc Oxide.

What is it?

Zinc oxide is a fine, white powdery substance that is used in almost every makeup product that is formulated. Zinc oxide can occur naturally, but the most common form used in cosmetics and skin care is produced by a heat reaction to zinc composites. It is an FDA-approved substance commonly used in sunscreens and mineral cosmetics.

Why do we use it?

Zinc oxide has many benefits in our makeup. It acts as a light filler when mixed with minerals and other natural ingredients to create a luxuriously soft texture. It also has very important antibacterial properties that extend the shelf life of make-up. These antibacterial properties are also an added benefit to your skin, as they help protect against bacteria and secondary infections to breakouts or even help reduce acne.

Zinc oxide is non-allergenic and non-comedogenic, meaning it will not irritate the skin or clog pores. In fact, it does the opposite by reducing irritation and soothing the skin. A key ingredient also in most acne treatments that help calm inflammation and reduce redness in acne-prone areas.

Zinc oxide also has preventive properties! It creates a barrier on your skin and protects your face and body against external factors and UV radiation. There is also some evidence that zinc oxide helps bind moisture into your skin, keeping it fresh and firm and helping to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. This moisture-binding ability also helps combat dry skin, especially in the winter months.

How much does Mineralogie use in its formulas?

Our Mineralogy foundations use zinc oxide without nano particles and we keep our concentrations balanced to ensure good skin protection without affecting the look and feel of our products. For example, you will never see the white cast of zinc oxide on your skin, but rest assured, it does work very well behind the scenes to protect your skin.

Back to basic…

Zinc oxide is an important ingredient in all our foundations. From our Award-Winning Loose Mineral Foundation to our brand new Liquid Zinc Foundation for problem skin; Finding the right foundation for your skin can be as easy as trying out our sample sets or getting good advice from our beauty experts and sales outlets.

Let's go back to basics and be kind especially to our skin this year!
